I have the chance to swap the Clio for an Ibiza with minimal cash involved.

don't be a fag and stick with the ibiza. Is there really any point in spending a shed load of cash on a project car when it could be spent on a more worth while car ie. the ibiza

What do you want to do? Car shows or track days decide then you'll know what to get.

Personally I'd get the Ibiza keep it stock as possible and get a Clio Williams that needs a bit of work, slap a set of cams on it and it will run sub 15 sec quarters and be good out on track with minum outlay. Basically not having to spend out on coilovers, brakes and engine bits to make a corsa faster and handle.
