The bios I have here on a Abit NF7 board is currupt and does not post at all. CMOS has been cleared and still no luck.
Can I boot from a CD even though the bios does not post all?
The DVD-ROM light shows on start up but no information is shown on the monitor at all. Tried switching from an AGP card to a PCI video card with the same results.
Is my only option to get a new bios or hotflash the exisiting one?
Any ideas?

You wont be able to boot from anything.
Doesnt it have a crash bios you can get to?
If not you will have to hotflash the other one.... its easily done. I did it with a DFI motherboard a few weeks back cos I flashed it using the nvidia utility instead of the DFI one.... duhhhhh

Richie can I use another bios chip from a different board to at least get a basic setup? Or does it have to be another Abit NF7?
No crash bios at all.

It has to be the right bios for the board mate or it wont POST
You need to find a working board with the same or similar bios chip and do a hotflash

OoO pants, thanks for the help.
There is a couple of computer sales/repair shops near work. I can remove the chip, I have the bios .bin file. I'm hoping they have the equipment to flash it for me. Not sure how specialist the equipment is or if they'll be able to do it.

To be honest though those places will charge you more to do it than a new chip would cost you.

Yeah cheers for that Richie. I seen that just before. TBH I've seen somewhere over here in Wales that will do it for a little more £13 ish but should get it sent quicker.
Just waiting for some of the tech guys in work to have a good look at it, now they're in and see definately no back up CMOS/BIOS settings can be accessed then I'll ring up.

Also.... if you can take a pic of the bios chip and send it to me.... i can check to see if i have a board here that can flash it

I meant in the UK m8 , I think that ebay seller is in Holland.
Cheers for the offer anyway. I ordered one today for £15 delivered. Not too bad but I'll be recouping the costs back from the PC owners

Pretty sure, it went tits up when I changed a ram setting and as I was saving the changes the PC restarted.
TBH I think the muppet who assembled it a few years ago used a slightly different bios flash when upgrading as the hardware analyser software I had and the online where showing it as a slightly different model. However the MB itself clearly shows the model and version.
I will soon know if the MB is trashed as well
The whole thing came about because the RAM it was shown to accept and was ordered did not work in the MB but I know the RAM is fine as it has been tested in another machine.

Take the battery out..., unplug the pc, leave it for 2 mins, turn it on, check it posts, turn it off, unplug, put battery back in, plug in and turn back on

Drax that has been done m8, for even longer and CMOS jumper set to reset, holding down insert and power on etc.. Think the bios is corrupt. Should know tomorrow if it turns up.

Richie, or anyone.
New bios chip worked great
However the only thing is the BIOS screen is split in half when using a LCD screen and you can't see all the options scrolling through.
However when a CRT is used it's fine. The BIOS is set to use the AGP as the primary display but this made no difference.
Does anyone know what settings need to be changed or looked at?

You just need to find and press the auto button on the LCD

Aye different BIOS's have different default resolutions and refresh rates before booting into the OS and you need to auto it once and the LCD will save it
