I bought my mum a camera for christmas and i'm just browsing through the settings for her.
Her resolution options are:
640 x 480
1600 x 1200
2560 x 1920
3072 x 2304 (this is what it's set at from standard)
I know sod all about photography, basically she just wants it to take general pictures, take her memory card to Boots or wherever and get them processed.
What should i set it to? Thanks.

There's also a Quality setting - Economy, Standard and Fine?
I just took a pic under the 3072 x 2304 setting and the pic was around 2mb! lol

Probably 1600x1200 to save space on the mem card IMO

Setting it to 2560 x 1920 and the quality to Standard gives pic file sizes of around 950kb - 980kb - she's got a 1gb card so not too bad?

That's 1000 pics, so yeah.
I would imagine you will still get enough on at the highest setting so there's no other reason not to do that.

Keep it on the best settings possible. You can always buy another memory card.
Why skimp on quality?

Yes, it all depends on the white balance etc, different pics on the same resolution could range from 2mb to 4mb.
