I cannot for love nor money get videos onto my bros Sony mp3 player

Ive installed windows media player 11 like it said and it wont have it

On the instructions it says that you should just be able to drag and drop but when I do that it says its not the correct format and when I try and convert with media player it says it cant

Any ideas???

edit - forgot to mention i downloaded an MP4 then dragged and dropped all ok but then it wont play it says incorrect format but in the instructions it says it supports mp4 or mpeg4 what ever difference is

can u go on sony website or download any firmware updates for it? i get a very similar problem when sometimes mp3's i download wont play on my media player or in my car?? i have no idea why, but if i download from a different source it works =\
