There is no 'Steve you will need Kleenex' warning in the title on this thread.

Also, if anyone lets the graphics on that pile of wank game decide which console you opt for then you need shooting.

Aaah, NFS - that well known multi-platform port using as little effort as possible to run properly on any hardware. A fair test of performance obviously

Steve shut up.

You're better than that, you know as well as I that the NFS games are wank and that doesn't prove anything.

There will never be a fair test. The cross platform games will always use the same textures, so will just always look the same and the games that are exclusive to each system arent a fair comparison because they are completely different games.

Dont trust Gametrailers for comparisons.

The colour is more washed out on the PS3 games because they have not went into Display settings and changed 'Full RGB' to Full, they have it on Limited. They also havnt enabled Super-White. You can tell when you try this for yourself.

Also, the games to compare are the ones which are developed on PS3 first then ported to 360, therefore they do not lose any quality. Because it is easier to create a PS3 game then port to 360 (Criterion made this point, as did Infinity Ward). Because when a 360 game is ported it is designed for a mutli-core CPU on the 360, where as the PS3 uses single cores, but has 8 of them. And also the PS3 uses the CPU in conjunction with the RSX gfx card, which has a different arcitecture to the 360 ATi gfx card.

So games like COD4, Burnout Paradise, Devil may cry 4 are basiclly identical and sometimes better looking on PS3.

But there is very little difference anyway, its mainly the contrast on Ps3 is different etc, and that can be sorted like I said above.

basically, you dont know what you're talking about

the 360 is far easier to develop for as its based on directx which is a PC platform, it commonly reported how a lot of games companies moaned how innaccessbile the sony system is to program for, a lot of games that are based on both consoles are in fact 360 ports

... Sigh.

I didnt say that all ports were PS3 to 360. Infact at the minute, very little are.

I said the ONES to compare. For example: COD4, DMC4 and Burnout. Also UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3.

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8396&Itemid=2

"We are now starting to see developers creating games on PS3 and then porting them to other platforms such as EA's Burnout," he said.

"Developers are telling us that they are starting to create their games on PS3 first and take advantage of the hardware capabilities and then port down to other platforms so we are seeing tremendous progress from the third party community in terms of what they are able to do with our development kits.

EDIT: Even more evidence...

"We're using the Cell in a number of different ways," said Ward. "We have Cell-dedicated SPUs for physics, deformation and streaming. This game has much better physics and deformation than we've ever had before—all in real-time. We're using Cell for a very fast and efficient streaming system that's given us a very high fidelity world that runs at 60 frames per second, which has never been done before. We built the game from the ground up for PLAYSTATION®3. We want to lead on this system. We see this as Burnout 1 for us and we want to make huge leaps on this system."

Its a fact that you achieve a better quality game on the 2 platforms when porting down from PS3 to 360. Because they are generally easier to make on 360, yes, however, when made on PS3, they port down to 360 easier than they port down to PS3.

So far, the only game I've seen on PS3 that looked far better was GT5 in comparison to Forza Motorsport 2.

The demo of GT5: Prologue looked great.

Fair enough not as good as what GT5 will look. but it looks 100x better than Forza.

Forza was very bland and the environments had nothing in them. In terms of gameplay i think GT is better, but they are pretty damn similar in the physics. (Forza had damn good physics.)

thats because ur not looking at the whole picture, gt5 uses more pixels per car than forza, but uses less shaders and less textures, so yes they look better, but dont look right.

i bet the physics arent updated 60fps though, thats part of the reason forza didnt look better, it was either physics and damage or amazing graphics, instead they opted for good graphics and good physics, with damage

when you dont have damage (like GT) that frees up a lot of resources as you arent having to render the damage aswell

all depends if your a graphics whore or want the best racing simulator you can get at the moment on a console.

as far as simulation goes, GT is and always has been a joke, but it always ends up looking better then the competition, polyphony has some good artists

GT5 is going to run in 1080p at 60FPs locked....

Thats been knowing for ages.

And of course you dont believe everything on the internet. But when there is a lot of proof, well, it backs up the case more.

It is known that most developers are now using PS3 as the lead platform, as by porting from Ps3 to 360, they achieve better performance in the Ps3 version, and dont lose anything in the 360 ports. When ported from 360 to Ps3, the Ps3 ports lost quality.
