Hi
Just thought i'd show you what equipment i have recently got and what i use to get the shots i want
Used to shoot using my good old D70s but i felt that after a year it was time to move on, hopefully so i can develop my photography further.
I decided to get a Nikon D300. Classed as a Pro body at a consumer price it is one hell of a machine. Its noise handling capabilities are incredible, even when i shoot at night games at York City FC at 3200iso there is very little noise. The screen is fantastic and lets you view your shots with extreme precision. One new feature is Live View, which lets you look at what your taking on the screen rather than through the eye piece, helpful for when you have to shoot freestyle.
I also bought the MB-D10 Battery Grip, which is a must have really when it comes to the high end Nikon cameras. Not only does it add the benefit of having an extra battery but it makes the camera more ergonomic and the extra shutter button helps for portrait shots. Purchase a EN-EL4a Battery and you can shoot at 8fps instead of 6.
Also have 2 new lenses to play with now. 1st one i got was the 80-200 2.8 Nikkor lens to replace my 70-300. Main reason for getting this was to help with my low light football photography as it has 2.8 all through the range.
The other lens i got was the 50mm 1.8. One of my favourite lenses and it costs less than £100. Bargin. Great for portraiture photography and any time you need a really shallow DOF.
PICS:
Equipment in the pics are:
D300 body with 50mm 1.8 Lens + MB-D10 Battery Grip
18-70 Nikkor Lens
80-200 2.8 Nikkor Lens
SB-800 Flash
Right so some early pics ive taken with it. Haven't had much time to use it yet and i cba editing my footy pics tonight so may add them later.
Aysgarth Falls:
Self Portrait
And then Tonight i got bored and decided to do some self portrait stuff. I don't have any fancy studio at hand so it was into the kitchen, creased bed sheet as a bg and my flash Ghetto Studio
Might add some more stuff later

With good light you'll get good shots.
It's not the equipment you have, it's how you use it.

You'll get decent shots I would think Andy, Anfield is pretty well lit up, ecspecially compared to York where i shoot, be brighter if someone parked their car up outside and put dipped beams on!

Couple of weeks back, just before christmas, 22nd i think. It was a bit of a spur of the moment thing, woke up in the morning saw it was a nice day so just looked for a scenic place to test out my camera.

how is the 50mm 1.8? Im still debating between getting the 1.8 or the 1.4 but there is quite a price difference. How does it hold up in lower light as that is the only advantage ive been told between the 1.4 and 1.4

I couldn't justify the price difference between the 1.8 and 1.4. I've never really needed to go for 1.8 for low light so i really didn't need 1.4.
I'd go for the 1.8 unless you can really think of a specific reason you would need 1.4
