In the Telegraph Motoring paper today someone has wrote in saying he accidentley filled his car with diesel and it hasn't been the same since. The reply was that many people have done the same thing and they'd all filled up at BP, whose pumps are all green. Which means they don't even read which pump they're picking up! It got worse saying that people have done the same thing at Shell, so as well as not reading which pump they are picking up they can't distinguish between red, green and black either which is the colour of Shells pumps

I've never understood how people manage this, even if they own one of each, surely in the drive to the pump would remind you which car you were in?

tell me about it. i work at a small renault/nissan main dealer. think we had 4 in the space of two weeks at one point. one of our courtesy cars has had it done 3 times. cant be long before the inj. pump gives up. there was a label on the key ring, dashboard, and inside the filler flap saying it was diesel. someppl are retarded.

Some people really are as thick as shit, like you say Shell's pumps are colour coded for christ sake, and it isnt like DIESEL and UNLEADED arent even at all similarly spelt Does wind me up when people blame someone like BP, when its their own stupid fault for not reading the pump

I had my Corsa, and an Escort van a while back, each one was in the petrol station about once every 2 weeks. I never once went for the wrong pump.
I'm just awaiting someone to use the excuse that 'these new diesels, you can barely tell the difference, so I thought it was petrol'
It will happen one day

You can normally get Diesel in a petrol due to the filler hole size and nozzle size can you?

I've managed quite easily to not go for the petrol pump when I've needed to fill up even though I had petrol cars for the past 6 years.
These people that fill up with the wrong fuel are most likely the same ones that drive badly and generally have no interest in cars

When I worked in the Petrol Staton you'd get at least 1 a week (I only worked 8 hour weeks)
Gotta see their faces when they're realised what they've done, it's classic

I bet you sat there watching them as they filled up their cars with 50 litres of the wrong fuel without telling them

I used to work at a garage, a woman filled her Jeep Cherokee Diesel with £50 of petrol, realised, brought it over the road to us, we drained the tank for £40, she then went back over to the petrol station, £50 of petrol, back to us, another £40 to drain, then another £50 of diesel
Third time lucky and it cost her £230 to fill up idiot
