We never used expensive PSU's at my old job where I designed computer cases and built computers. They never went bang.

When I built my GF's computer I used the one that came with the case to keep costs down. A month later in a storm, lightning hit a cable going to the house and blew it up
Bought a decent one with some surge proofing and nt missed a beat in the last 2 years
