Having not driven my car for about a week, i tried the other day and it wouldnt budge. After playing about with the handbrake it felt that it wasnt actually connected to anything.
Im stuck at uni so cant do a lot cos i cant get it up on axle stands to get a look at it. Has anyone experienced similar problems. I did a quick search on here but most things were the cable snapped, which i'd assume means that its stuck off, not on?
I dunno wot to do cos i cant drive it to a garage. I had a look earlier at the handbrake inside the car and underneath, but i cant see a lot. I took pics but they dont really show anything and a i cant upload them anywhere anyway!
help please!

if the cable has snapped it will leave the handbrake off not on mate
i would try moving it mine normally just ping off and then they are ok

i have tried to drive it, its moved a few feet forward and back but they never unlocked. i didnt wanna cause any damage.
is it possible that the lever isnt attached to the cable but the cable it somehow on?

not really mate just sounds to me they are stuck on driving it forward should sort it if not take the wheel of and give it a thump with a hammer lol

If the cable wasn't attached then there would be no tension on the cable to hold the shoes onto the drum

if it feels as though the cable isnt doing anything, it may be your handbrake shoes.
the lever that the handbrake cable operates may be stuck on (probably from leaving it stood a while) thus causing you top have slack cables, really need to get your drums off to inspect damage

Mine did this after I'd been on holiday for 2 weeks. I wondered why it was so hard to pull away. I just re-engaged the handbrake a few times (up down motion) and it came unstuck eventually.

Get a bit of hard wood or chisel and hammer the brake drums....works a treat.

ever such a common fault
just find a metal bar, feed it through the holes in the wheel and give it a good clout will free off and be fine.
In future avoid leaving the handbrake on if you arent going to use the car for more than a few days.

tried pushing the button in, and then lifting up as hard as possible, then letting it off? Sometimes happens...

my car does this all the time. i just keep trying it and it eventually comes loose and all is good

ok i fixed this yesterday by taking the wheel off and giving it a smack.
now its looser and i can drive it, but as soon as i touch the brakes i can hear it rubbing again.
something must be wrong in there?

Well if you put the brakes on, it'll apply the brakes?

rubbing in what way? could be that your brake shoes are down to the metal if its a scraping noise?

lol, i meant that i can touch the brakes only a tiny bit and ill hear scrubbing coming from the wheel that was stuck.
worn brake shoes could be the problem. easy/cheap to fix?

Yeah shoes aren't alot. Getting the hub might prove difficult if your shoes are close to the hub, will take alot of tugging/leverage to get that off. My best method was hitting with a hammer

trusty friend hammer.
cheers lads. im at uni for a bit but i guess ill have a go when i go home one weekend.
is the fact that the pads are worn why he handbrake stuck in the first place? is it likley to happen again?

When you put the handbrake on it was probably hot and has just stuck to the hub, which is why they say not to apply the handbrake after you've just been out on a trackday.
