i love the mk5 zs, always wanted 1 in blue, had 2 settle 4 the mk6 variant though :-( you going to do anything to it? I'd suggest suspension, exhaust and just subtle mods like tints, smoked front and rear lights and detango indicators.
Post some pics and get on zsoc.com, some lovely examples on there. Hope you enjoy the ford mate!

I think that the engine is a bit soft. Not quick at all. Gearbox is nice and slick. Short throw and tight.
Interior is OK, seating position is crap. Fuel economy isn't that good either. Handling isn't that bad. Quite chuckable.
Overall I think it's a boring car. Seriously thinking of selling and buying something else.

my missus' ZetecS; removed rub strips, colour coded plastic, lowered 40mm. Slight bad boy bonnet to take away the suprised look
I like it, relatively nippy and comfy to drive.
Notes of Caution:
1 - Don't smash a fog lamp they are near impossible to source. I still haven't managed after 6 months of trying.
2 - Oil warning light. This is not just a warning light- its a pul the fuck over you have not even a drop of oil left light. The ZS does seem to use a fair bit of oil as well.
3 - Rust on rear arches and behind doors, thats with all Fords though.

Fog lamp?
I can't get one anywhee, no breakers have them, Ford couldn't get them, mechanic has tried everywhere as well. Pain in the arse considering it only went out of production a couple of years ago.
The lamp is fine on ours, it still works, but the glass is smashed right through.

Induction kit, sounds alright - no ntoiceable difference in performance.
and thats it. Its her daily drive, she doesnt need the ahssle of a highly modified car

Amen to that, on any of the Zetec engines (1.25; 1.4; 1.6; 1.7 iirc). It also has a tendency not to come on. Check your oil weekly, without fail.

Clare killed her engine, light came on 25 miles from home after she came to see me when I lived in Southampton; she backed off, took it easy and was gonna leave it overnight then fill up. She ended up having to replace the engine!

All the Zetec engines are made by Yamaha, well, my girlfriends 1.4 16v is. They aren't bad (from what I remember of driving it). The 1.4 16v is pretty quick as well - early MK5 Zetec S's had the Yamaha's, then they were changed for later models, don't know if Yamaha still made them though. . .
