Hi guys, iv had my little 1.2 16v for nearly 6months and im chuffed with it, apart from a few dents and marks its spot on.
Just wondering if i should service it myself and what to get?

General service is really really easy even if you dont have any idea about cars. (See the FAQ and Tutorials page)
Airfilter
Oil & Filter (dont forget a copper washer for the sump plug)
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs and Leads if you want but if its running fine dont bother.
Does it have any service history? - Check when the last timing belt was done. If your not sure get a garage to do this for piece of mind.

Yes. It's cheaper and easy.
Just don't overtighten or cross thread the plugs.

corsa is the perect car to learn on mate. I showed my girlfriend once, now she awlays changes her own, plugs, oils and filter's.
Its far more satisfiing than paying a garage to do it, plus you will becomem better at finding your way round gthe engine.
As said, follow a guide on this site as there usally spot on

What I used to do when I serviced my own car was keep the reciepts for the plugs, filters and what not. Then write in the service book and keep the reciepts as proof.
I got it done once a year by a garage though to keep the stamps in there.

You cant stamp the service book mate you'll need that done at a garage if you want to keep it up to date.
nothing wrong with doing your own Oil and filter services between recommended service intervals tho. Every 5K i do mine.

I wouldn't do it myself no matter how easy it is. I wouldn't buy a car if it had been serviced by the owner instead of a garage.

Puts me off too, its always worth getting the stamp in the book by going to a garage at the intervals.
But....Id prefer it if the owner had receipts for all the oil and filter services he'd carried out inbetween aswell. Shows the car has been looked after not had 20k on the same oil.

Yeah but I had a couple of Corsa Bs before this
1st one had full vaux service history, 2nd one had all vaux history except one when I bought it and nearly didn't buy it cos of it not having full vaux history. Just like everything done by the book by a garage, all stamped up etc. rather than some fella doing it on his driveway

yeah, thats the only thing putting me off doing it. i mean the cars not worth alot but it does have a full stamped history in the book.
What kinda price do garages charge?

No offence, but i work for vauxhall and i'd much rather have a car serviced by myself rather than a numpty aprentice
The amount of times they have broken things and i have to get a new one in asap before the customer comes to pick their car up

When i work on my car i take my time and do everything by the book. When the lads in the workshop service a car they are working to a deadline and do everything as quick as possible. Alot of corners are cut. For example in the year and half i have been here the lads have never asked for a new sump plug washer
