righto.... maybe a daft question
We have basically decided to shelf the idea to buy a recovery truck and are now going for a big 4x4.
Originally thought about budget ones like P38 range rovers, L200's etc.... but the ones in our cash budget for now arent going to be up to much really
So.... we nipped in by the Land Rover garage yesterday, and are now looking towards a 2nd hand Range Rover, or Range Rover Sport. Prob the Range Rover though as it is looking to be about 10k cheaper.
I havent had finance on a car since I was 18 so... basically.... how do you go about it? Best to get a loan, or just go to the garage and let them sort it?
Any idea on payments with a small deposit (say 4k) and a purchase price of around upto 30k. From 20-30k really. Over 3 years perhaps roughly £600 a month is realistic yes?

I get told by various other people that you should always try to seek a loan from the bank vs the dealership because you'll always get a better deal. This is only what I've been told.

Most cpmpanies limit loans @ £15k without securing against a house so need to speak to finance places really... try capital bank
Also, check moneysupermarket.com to geta rough idea of prices

Finance in a bank etc is always going to cheaper in my experience.
Nationwide offer extremely good rates, fixed rates as well, so you know exactly what you'll be paying out for the term.
If you have a good relationship with your bank (do you run a business for example?) they might be able to wangle you something good

S'pose :S
What about a Nissan Navara? Big 4x4 with plenty room, flat back for throwing on tools & bits & not as pricy as a Landy
Like one of these - http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/NISSAN+NAVARA/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146,N-143-4294966390-4294967243/advert.action?R=200802108302369&distance=94&postcode=fk3+9ar&channel=CARS&make=NISSAN&model=NAVARA&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=
Ive found most modern landrovers to be off road overkill, more about how much leather & gadgets they can throw in one & swav-ness than off road ability & pulling ability.

I don't think we've ever had so many problems deciding on cars
We spent all day Sunday looking and changing our minds every five minutes and all last night

you can get a navara with satnav and leather woth a cab back for around 21k new, leasing is only good if your costs are cheaper than your finance, depreciation, and tax which in your case will be espically if its brand new your after

Except in my case, garage gave me 3% compared to bank offer of 6% so its worth looking at both.

alot of ppl saying the banks are better and it my experience thats true.
however car salesmen(women) want to get a sale and the commission. if it was me i would meet with the bank and discuss the options they can offer you (dont take the flashy adverts as the best you can get- the bank wants your money too) get a firm answer, eg £2000k 4.7% over 18months let say
then go to the car dealer and if you're genuinely interested haggle, as best you can knowing you've got a firm answer from the bank. if you can return 3days later with the money (on loan from the bank) it may be worth it, although the "offer" may only be available for that day....

I did a quote with RBS and they were offering us a rate of 8%
Range Rover garage were offering 5%!
We need a car that is reliable and good, and we only need it for a year to a year and a half as we're planning on moving abroad.
By leasing we don't have to deal with selling it and it's new, so very little cost for maintenance if any

Do people finance cars that are cheap enough to justify not getting fully comp insurance?
