its free on my contract, so - would this be the best choice?

Yes but an N82 or N95 8GB is a better pick

Got the N81 today Luigi, N82 and N95 both seemed too big to me. First impressions are it's easy to use and navigate as you'd expect with a Nokia, still a wee bit big but i suppose you have to draw the line somewhere as it has 8gig of memory!
Ill have more of a play tommorow and see what it's like!

N95
Volume: 95 cc
Weight: 124 g
Length: 99 mm
Width: 53 mm
Thickness (max): 20.5 mm
Memory Functions
N81
Volume: 86 cc
Weight: ~140 g
Length: 102 mm
Width: 50 mm
Thickness (max): 17.9 mm
In terms of being in your pocket the N95 just seemed to chunky the N81 is a wee bit better, i hate having things in my pockets though i suppose
Put a good few hundred songs on it last night, easy to do, easy to navigate, sound is as clear as i've heard from phone, menus are all straightforward, texting, phoning, adding contacts all simple. All in all probably the best phone i've owned which again isn't saying much as i've had a fair few bangers in my time

From the figures there and putting them side by side the n81 seems much smaller, the n95 is only smaller in length and thats the dimension that matter the least when its in your pocket.

Ive got my 8gb n95 and a std n81 in front of me... imo the n81 looks bigger cos its longer, similar width and practically as thick etc

Maybe sitting in front of you looking straight on but no in your pocket.
I have an xda that looks massive compared to an n95 but both in my pocket the n95 feels much bigger because it's thicker.

I'm really enjoying mine, battery life on it is amazing considering ive been listening to music and watching videos on it since i got it and it was only plugged in for an hour tops yesterday!
If i have no issues with it breaking *Touch wood* then i'd defo recommend it to anyone!
