If you crash, you can claim.

If your car ends up on it's roof, on fire, in a ditch, you can claim for it.

Your car in particular it's probably not worth it.
By the time you pay the 200 + what i'm assuming is quite high excess it's more than the car is worth.

i only pay £135 excess at the moment and my car is valued at £1300,and if i did crash and it was my fault i wouldnt be able to replace my car unless i got a loan or something.
if i did go fully comp and crashed and claimed off my own insurance my insurnace will still go up wont it even if i didnt hit another car?

Is the car valued at 1300 by the insurance or did you put 1300 into estimated value?
Yes insurance would still go up as you have a claim.

if you crash your own car the insurance won't pay for any damage to your car, only the third parties, hence the third party fire and theft.
if you went fully comp you will be covered no matter what.
of course your insurance will go up if you claim whether it's your fault or not.
my experience of this is this: 1800 quid for a focus st fully comp with 2 years no claims 20 years old living in an average postcode (accidents not declared)
or
2500 with both accidents declared (one is 50/50 but gives me one years no claims because it was settled outside of insurance and one not my fault)

If you put 1300 into the estimated value box that means absolutely nothing.

They won't give you £1300 for it then.
If you want £1300, you need to get an agreed valuation on it.

The chances of no 3rd party being involved is probably less than you think.. I never thought about fully comp, as i thought the same, if i stack it i just wont claim.. that was untill the back end stepped out on an icy road and i went through a couple of gates and a hedge.. someone has to pay for the hedges and fences, and it was my insurance.. i ended up £3000 down as the car was written off, and lost 3 years NCB.. wish i had paid the extra for fully comp as i would have a cheque for £3000 instead of feck all...

It totally depends what the costs are and how much the car is worth, you cannot give a 100% blanket answer.

An extra £5 a week is nothing, i'd say it's definitely worth it mate. Just think; if you were to have a crash that was your fault, you'd be able to claim for repairs or get something back for your car at least; whereas with TPFT you'd get nothing and have to foot any repair bills yourself, which no matter how cheap parts are, is always going to be difficult.
