How do i go about it?

i sent off my v5 telling dvla of the engine change from x14xe to x16xe and the sent me back a letter saying that i need to update my tax before they will register it.

This is the problem my car hasnt currently got an mot, so i cant go and get tax.

The mot place have my car down as a 1.4 so it will get tested as that.

how do i get round the problem?

can i make the mot testers eun the mot test as a 1.6?

update your tax?

because you're in the lower bracket or something?

You could always ask for a refund on the tax thus taking the car off the road, update the V5 via the DVLA, then go get it tested for a MOT with the new updated V5, then once you pass it go get a tax disc.

remember to tell your insurance too, only fags invalid their insurance by not telling them.

hmmm, I'd ring the DVLA and ask whats involved with 'updating the tax'

Otherwise just declare the car off the road and do it the other way. Sadly you're going to have to wait abit of time due to the DVLA being slow as fuck

bugger what if it goes through the MOT as a 1.4.

can i use that mot to buy 1.6 tax and then register the new engine that way?

if it goes through as a 1.4 and the MOT tester spots it as a 1.6 and it will fail surely

It wont matter what its tested as

As for taxing and declaring the new engine its simple

If you already have tax on the car then you wont need to produce an mot all you do is take your old tax disc and your v5 filled out with the new cc and engine number to your local dvla office and they will give you a new tax disc for the higher tax group (there will a charge as your upping the tax duty) then hand the v5 and they give you the green part back and your new tax disc then just await the arival off your new v5 through the post

Done this many times with no hassle

well my local office is about an hour away. i have to have a retest in the next week in order to get it forfree which means i wont have time for dvla to change details. so for the mot it will still be registered as 1.4. if i tell the mot tester it has a 1.6 sport engine in before the test what will he do?

test it as 1.6

test it as 1.4

not test it at all.

The tester cant amend the certificate as when they type in the reg it comes up with all the details from the dvla so will come up as a 1.4

It wont matter what its tested as you will still be able to tax it as a 1.6 when you change your docs

ok cool cheers mate

how hard will it be to meet the 1.4 emission requirements with the 1.6?

i got 0.62 on co level when max is 0.30 last time with a decat.

i have a cat on the way, will it bring it down enough to pass?

Tbh there shouldnt be much difference on the limits between the 1.4 and 1.6

Yes with a cat fitted it should pass no bother mabe try some fuel cleaner to and give it a good blast before the mot
