How hard to fit, my car has failed mot because it's mising along with a bulb and my headlights need adjusting, i dont mind paying £11 to have them done but they want £25 to fit the clip is this right or can i do it my self?

Right iv bought a cv kit from halfords to use the metal ties it coms with and grease were am i putting the grear just in the boot....?

Most motor factors CV boots come with cable tie's.
So yeah, just cable tie it.

Iv just bought a cv bot kit from halfords for £3 comes wth grease and the metal wraps im guesing will work better then cable ties i no its sounds daft but were am i puting the grease?

Grease goes inside the boot to lube the cv joint, metal clips are better and last longer can just be fidily if you dont know what your doing

So iv just got to put it on the inside of the boot the boot is still on the car just need to get the strap on for mot tomorow morning they said cable tie will do to pass it but thought the metal straps would be better?

What clip is missing? the small one on the shhaft or the big one on the cv?

If its the larger one then the boot will slide off and you can get some grease on it then slide it back on and attach clip

Im pretty sure its the bigger one as i remember when i was changing my suspension i noticed it missing and thought i need to get that sorted but thats as far as it got

If its just the small one then chances are no grease has escaped so shouldnt need any so will be fine with a cable tie

Push all the grease into the joint, all around the bearing cage etc.
Then any excess just put into the boot.

Iv put all the grease in now as said only problem is the metal straps that came with it are a PAIN to put on so going to try a cable tie would a jubilee work? Also how tight has it got to be they failed me because there was nothing there so just wondered how tight i need it?

do not put a lot of grease as will finish with a pop cv boot when y turb the wheels and disc brakes full of grease ....

Iv put some actually in the boot and on the joint was'nt an awful lot as only had a litle packet most went all over me

I did it once overfilled and pop both cv fill ed disc brackes with grease and the car could not brake lol

The metal clips are supposed to be fitted with a special tool which we can comfortably assume he doesn't have. You can get them on using a bit of coomon sense and a small flat head screwdriver, then once the lug is through the relevant retention hole, flat it over with a ballpein hammer so it wont undo.

Cable ties are also fine, just make sure you go beyond hand tight and use some grips to pull on them whilst pushing on the clip section with something to get them bloody tight.

Jubilee clips tend to rip/dig into whatever there clamping.
Not good on a rubber boot full of grease.

Just an update put a jubilee clip on tight enough to stop it moving but not so tight it dug in and it passed the mot no problem, i am going to get the proper clip fitted at the week end the jubilee is just a tempory thing to get through the mot which i did top advice guys thanks very much
