what causes the fuel pump relay to trip out

ECU normaly sends earth to relay to activete, but mine trips out and goes live
have to probe an earth down it, and it works again


happened once before, took ages to work out the above fault. Hasn't happened since, but now fitted cams (more fuel required) its tripped out 3 times, luckerly i have a wire in car to fix it


what causes this, straining fuel pump?????
