Right my laptop is 3 years old now so I was looking at upgrading the ram, its not that slow or anything but cant hurt to make it faster can it.
Now currently I have 2 x 512 sticks so I would be looking at 2 x 1gb sticks.
Would I see a noticeable difference going from 1 to 2gb? Is it worth the expense?
According to crucial here are the results of the test:
Guaranteed-compatible memory upgrades for your HP - Compaq HP-Compaq 3085 motherboard Laptop/Notebook .
# Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
# Currently Installed Memory: 1GB
# Available Memory Slots: 0
# Number of Banks: 2
# Dual Channel Support: No
# CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
# CPU Family: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ Model 15, Stepping 0
# CPU Speed: 1795 MHz
It says I need DDR PC2700 type ram, now should I look for laptop specific?
Is this good ram:

TBH for the cost and the performance increase I'd say its not worth it.
If you were buying a new one with Vista, and you were considering 512mb ovr 1GB (or even 1GB over 2GB in some cases) I'd say get it upgraded, but otherwise I'd prob wait until something else goes wrong and you have to get a new one...as after 3yrs that wont be far off!!
