How easy is it to replace?
Serviced car today did everything except oil filter, will do that tomorrow, just wondering how you do it any special tools needed etc?
How do you get old one off and put new one on?
1998 1.4 16v corsa btw, so already have correct filter.
cheers

just spin it off anti clockwise mate, it may just be tight, some oil will come out of it though when you remove it and just dab a tiny bit around the rim of the new filter when you replace it

if youve done the oil change already, then you'll have the shit from the old filter still in the clean oil.

If you dont have the tool to do it then ram a screw driver throughthe casing and wind it off, do it at the right angle and it wont run down your arm.
Ideally fill the new filter with oil and as someone else said smear a finger of oil around the rubber seal, then screw it in hand tight. Pull the fuel pump relay and turn it over until the oil light goes out, then put the relay back in and start.

The filter is there to catch the shit, it shouldn't pass into the oil. Slight 'muck' (colour) from cross contamination will always happen but it is the hydro carbons in the oil that are responsible for most of the discolouration. Unless of course you pull the sump off and go anal with cleaning?

No, only any slight residue above the thread for the filter, most oil will be back in the sump when doing a change, it sure as hell wont piss the circa 3.5l capacity all over him.

To be fair I normally do 2 oil changes to 1 filter change (even though the filter is peanuts, its just lazyness! ) but when the car is working it is every 3k so it is still golden when it comes out. If people are wanting more mileage than that then change it every time IMO.

its a bit fiddly on the 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines due to lack of space though. I couldnt get my oil filter tool in so went for the good old fashioned stab it with a screwdriver jobbie
