18-55 is the kit lens, it comes with it unless you find a body only deal, good lens and you can work out from there what else you need.

I just bought the 400D, very pleased with it.
The standard lens is a bit 'soft', ie. not crystal sharp shots but perfectly useable. I also got hold of the new(ish) Canon 55-250 IS lens for motorsport and football shots.
May post some up tomorrow of todays trip to Wembley

Was looking at the d40x, then realised it's been replaced with the d60 with a few more features! Since i've been looking for one, i don't even think i've come accross the d50

I'm a complete beginner with cameras, went out & bought a Canon 400D, cracking camera, kit lens is good enough, dont have any problems with it.
Whatever you get, buy a spare battery, a decent tripod & lots of memory cards!

Yep, battery grip will be my next purchase and should make the body far more 'holdable'

One of the best things i bought Andy. So much easier flipping to portrait, better battery life (I've got no choice with mine i need one if im going to use it for anything over an hour ) looks like a monster with it on aswel

Also found out on my trip to Wembley yesterday how much a pain it is swapping between lenses! Seems to take forever
