have had a quick search but cant seem to find anytrhing that matches mine,

anyway

when i start the car it sounds like a deisel and then when i accelerate it sounds VERY rattly upto 2100rpm then it stops - if the revs drop to 2100 it starts again - if they go above 2100 - it goes away

its deffo coming from the engine and at idle it sounds very rough, like i said, spounds like a deisel!!

anyone got any ideas!?

Is it a tapping noise or more of a knocking noise? does it stop once the car is warmed or or does it do it all the time?

its there all the time but only up until i hit 2100 rpm - then it goes!!

if you could get a video of it up here it would be a lot more helpfull. But it sounds to me like it could be loose cam belt, or tappets are fooked, could have even jumped on the belt.

water pump? my old engine did this...changed the water pump and it was ok

cheers for the response guys - thinking about it does use abit water - would that happen if the water pump was fooked?!

richard - does it have tappets - i thought the 1.4 16v sports had hydrolic lifters or something?!

iirc....if the pump has gone it will use more water

Behind the cam belt.

It's cam belt driven so the belt needs to come off.
