i've had a crazy idea
I want a track car...
I've always wanted one, but This time I think im gonna go and do it!
I was thinking Nova 1.6
wise choice
for it to be on a track it needs to be?
MOT?
tax?
Insured?
Im thinking of trying to find a half decent nova for around £500-600 and stripping it bare and fitting buckets, bigger brakes, decent suspension etc...
good idea or nay?

Id sy its a good starting point, light car with a nippy engine with more tuning
Think t does generally have to be road legal though, think it may depend on event your in.

go for it mate, as said try PBG/novaload theres loads of inspiration
as for legality it doesnt need tax/MOT if you trailer it to each circuit but if it looks a pile of shit/dangerous the stewards will probably check it out and may not let you on track - as long as its built well and safe youll be fine tho

1600 gti 205's are easier than nova's
novas rust 205s dont
novas are slow...205's are not
nova's go round corners...205s come with rails
good car's...my mates bro just went from a nova to a 205...got a nice one for £750 very nice highish mileage at 110k...but its sound strange

205s rust as bad as novas lol
novas arent slow with a simple engine upgrade
a quick sus swap and a nova is on par with an out of the box 205
novas are also cheaper than a 205gti even with the above mods to make it level pegging

205's are great cars but not by todays standards...
If you what cheap thrills buy soething like a 106 XSi or a Clio 1.8 16v. Can't understand why people buy a flawed car then spend silly money on them tryng to make them track cars.

205s have been pricey for a while now, but XSis are still VERY well priced for how good they are.
Having said that, one of the people I work with bought an Mi16'd 205 which was almost mint for about £1500 a few weeks back

so
nova 1.6 8v
205 1.6 8v
106 xsi
id prefer nova as suspension etc can be changed so much easier and cheaper...
bigger brakes are easy to get hold of and cheap too

^^ the xsi can be just as easily fettled.
gti-6 brakes, similarly priced suspension with a decent second hand market out there

Rear torsion bar adjustment is probably about as much effort as changing some rear shocks on an old Nova anyway.
The 106 will be a lot more capable on track too, Novas have a shit driving position and don't actually handle that well compared to the Frenchies.

8 valve reliability too. Not a word you often apply to a french car
