just bought the cannon 400d, got a bargain tbh
i started talking to this girl at a party the other weekend, she worked for jessops so said she could get me discount so went there today,,,
got the 400d with 18-55 lens kit
uv protector glas
4gb flash card
and a canon bag which is for sale at £80
she gave me staff discount 
came to the total of 410 squid! which the camera on normal price was 390 so well chuffed with that!!!
pics to follow, ive been using m mode (manual???) and also automatic...
any hints and tips to get me started?
tonight im going to go out with the tripod to a local bridge and get some long exposure shots, what settings do i need to change as im a newby to all this!

i'm quite new to all this too so i won't advise u on settings  but just have a mess around and do some reading on how things work

For a few shots stick it on Tv - set it to around 15-20 seconds and see if the aperture can get a good match.
Stick it on the tripod, set long exposure compensation(tells you how in the manual) and activate it off a timer so that when you press the shutter button the camera doesn't wobble during the start of the shot

Nikons are very simple.
You have A,S, P and M mode.
M is fully manual, but if you're beggining i'd leave it be for now.
P mode adjusts the aperture and shutter together to achieve the best exposure possible.it alters them depending on focal length.
It works by keeping a maximum aperture until a suitible shutter speed is found, so it's good for suff like landscape and snaps but not creative photography. Could be good for cars.
S - Lets you control the speed of the shutter, and the camera adjusts the aperture accordingly.
A - lets you control the aperture and adjusts the shutter accordingly. Gice different effects to photos than shutter mode.

been out to take some long exposure ones... went on top of a bridge, it really didnt work... it just wouldnt take the pictures, and the flash just kept flashing as if it was a speed camera... alot of cars kept slowing down, which was funny, well until the police turned up and told me to move on!!
i used the 'tv' mode, i had the shutter speed at 20 seconds, and tried using the count down but it just wouldnt work...

on the way back i used the non flash mode which seemed to get some but was pretty rubbish,,, this was the best pic i took...
