Failed MOT on excessive blue smoke under accelleration and emissions.

So its got to be burning oil, most probably going to be the piston rings but is there anything else that could cause it?

thanks

mate you need to be looking at solving the problem not cheaply solving the problem, if its the piston rings $$$,

when you drive it along put it in second slow down to about 35ish and take you foot off the loud pedal wait a couple of seconds and then put your foot flat and look in your rear view, if its the valve seals the smoke will be blue.

If it were the stem seals it would tend to only smoke on start up for a short ammount of time after the car had been sitting. If it's burning oil under acceleratoin then it'll most likely be the piston rings or excessive wear on the bores.

Unfortunately fixing burning oil isn't usually a simple fix and usually means a knackered engine that needs a re-build to fix...

Only simple thing it could be would be blocked breather hoses. As this would cause higher oil pressure and force some oil past the rings.

take them off of the rocker cover and blow down then to check they are free
