Hi,

I have a 1999 Corsa B GLS 1.2 16v.

The mechanic did a compression test on the car and all pistons are 175psi but one is only 45psi. It loses a litre of oil every 6 months (doing about 16-20 miles a day). The mechanic only did a compression test because the car was revving and he didnt know why (turned out it was just the mat catching onto the accelerator) so there was no blue smoke or anything to SHOW that the compression was low.

Should i just leave it how it is? The performance seems fine and it can do 90mph+ and it sounds fine. How much would it cost to replace the piston ring?

Please reply

Piston ring replacment is quite a big job I am affraid so will be quite a few £££

Wont damage the engine running it like it is but it will get worse over time.

Id be questioning if he did the test right, if that result was the case the engine would be very lumpy to drive.

When piston rings have gone you will het smoke out of your exhaust and a lot of oil consumption, yours sounds fine to me

could be lots of things causing low compression. get a leakdown compression test done, that will diagnose the problem imediately.
