I am currently looking for a new car and just realised that the vx220 falls into my price braket. the only concern is that it was never imported by the local opel dealer so servicing might be a problem. is the engine used on any other model in the vauxhall / opel range?

Rob wait for the gov. to remove the registration tax and import one from UK. Import the turbo and not the N/A since the annual tax on the 2.2 is more than the 2.0 because of the larger displacement. Also the turbo is more fun in our dry country
Regarding servicing they should not be a big problem. I'm sure that you find parts. Although from opel they are not that cheap.

I thought that 2.2 engine was used in some Astras/Zafiras and Vectras! Its nothing special anyway, Im sure they could service one without an issue!
Good choice by the way!!!

aw ian.... i'm not gonna wait for the gov to remove registration cos anyway if you end up paying more that next year u get the difference deducted in the license tax!! so its still the same.
the new license is gonna be on the emmisions not on the displacement.
my worry is that if i get the 2.0 turbo... they won't even stock the parts since we don't get astra gsi / opc of anything of the sort.

Can you go and see it before you buy? The reason I say this is they are quite hard to get in and out of if you're quite tall
Do you not get any form of 2.0 turbo Astra at all?

robin... astra gsi? we dont get that over here
vectra 2.0 turbo? or 2.2? we might get the 2.2 but definitely not the 2.0 turbo
Zafira gsi? don't get the either
Signum? i don't think we get that at all!
as you can see, our choice of model and engines is quite limited!

Lol rob I think it has been a bit long since you checked the opel site.
Signum - we get it in 1.8, 2.2, 2.0 turbo and 1.9 diesel
Vectra - we also get both the 2.0 & 2.2
Zafira gsi .. is it the same as the SRi? Same applies to Astra.
On the website I see Zafira with 2.0 turbo, 2.2 and 1.9 CDTI along with the 1.8 for the non SRi.
Btw we get the models based on those specified in Ireland.

not really ian... in fact a couple of weeks ago i was talking to a friend of mine who works at the dealership and said that they are still discussing weather to get the corsa and astra opc or not! with regards to the signum, vectra and zafira, u can order the 2.0 turbo but not has gotten one yet so i doubt that they will source the parts.
guess i'd better check directly with them.

Being an opel dealer, they are supposed to source the parts even if we don't get the engine.
I am not sure but most probably they will source the parts from ireland or germany. It would be stupid not to IMO. Most probably you have to wait for the parts for a while though.

I assume that these are for the 2.2 only.

if its opel they should be able to get all the bits you might need, as Opel sold them in mainland Europe, only the name and the grill changed i think.
Either way the plugs and filters are nothing special. I wouldnt say my Turbo was expensive to run, especially for the performance it gives. There are plenty of slower cars in the same price range that i would struggle to afford to run everyday, evos, imprezas, 350z etc
