Largely depends what kind of car, and what you want out them?
In a Corsa sense, only really reasonable if major mods to timing/cams/fuelling etc required. Even then, unless will absolutely not run on standard management, for the sake of a few horsepower very very expensive.
For diesels/turbo cars, can be a very cost effective power modification.

yeh ull only really benfit out of a re-map if you have a tuned engine, if not it is alot of money for the sake of 5bhp+

I had a mantzel inlet fitted to my Gsi many years ago, then a remap, I paid about £500 for remap, yes it ran slightly better but gained about only 9hp. Which I thought was great at the time. But looking back I could not justify that cost again!

Imagine that kind of money going into a 1.6 and what the output would have been? Or even a 2LT!!
Id say upgrade the engine if you'd like to get a fair bit of modding done engine wise, that's what im doing now.

get some decent brakes/coilovers and tyres and then be just as quick in a "race" as you would with a bit of extra power.
