great build quality, very good engines, great fun cars. MPG is ok, same as most small 1.6 cars. seem reliable enough and easy to fix if they go wrong.

Insurance can sometimes be very high, the missus wanted one a while back and they wouldnt cover her on one! we ended up getting a 2003 polo tdi which is a fair bit quicker than the gti

the mk5 polo gti is often overlooked as a hot hatch option but is probably one of the better ones

Not the best handling or the quickest out there but cant fault it on anything else

Build quality is top draw and reliability shouldnt be a problem either

Love the look of them too

the only thing i don't like about the next model up is the twin wimperish headlights otherwise i would probably consider one because i think i read a post of yours dave when you got it that you mapped it to 150bhp

what insurance group are they?

thats not really called a mk5, its called a 6N2

they are good cars, 125bhp apy engine

pedal boxes crack, and are covered by an 8 year warrenty on them

the common cause gear selection beeing a nightmare, as the clutch pedal mount flexes

gear boxes arent the strongest either

interiour is much better put together than the later 9n (shape dave has)

next model up (like mine) is so much better all round. plus the 1.9 tdi engine is great, 150 bhp and 270 ft/lb with 50 mpg is a great package.

its also dirt cheap to insure, I pay about £280-300 a year fully comp.

your particular car is better dave, and proberly the best allround polo bar the 9N GT

the 9n genrally as a model is worse, from a ex volkswagen employee point of view

I like them, wanted one for a while.

Sometimes find a GTi with full leather interior fitted from new, look out for one of them.

love my 6n2, not a gti. had no problems with it at all.

interior is a bit bland but i will be upgrading soon.
think the 6n2 is the best looking polo yet, although theres a few 9ns that look quite trick atm.

not sure what kinda car i want yet really i was planning on getting the 1.8 sri corsa c but with the way fuel prices are going i may get a diesel even tho diesel costs more on fuel but will get better mpg.

i will have between £4000 - £5000 next year for a new car hopefully and need to be sure when it comes around to buying one so looking at many different cars & models to see whats gonna be best.

ive heard about the gearbox's too,

although find a good one with good history and should be fine, same as any car really they nearly always have 1 major common fault.
