There has to be 70% light transmission. You can get them tinted at some places, but you would have to have them wound down whilst you're driving.

quote:
"The front passenger and driver side window can only be tinted no less than 70%. Rear windows can be treated in any shade of tint. Windscreens must be clear from tinting apart from a 6" strip across the top."

Just edited my other post with a link, didn't realize you'd replied.

The page in the link is dated 15 Nov '07, I don't think there have been any changes since then.

It's also difficult to gauge the level of tint on the front windows, because of manufacturer smoked glass.

i.e. 30% tint rating will be more.

However plenty of celebrities drive around, in the mags, with fully tinted windows, so I wonder how they get away with it.

Jordan and Peter Andre for example, in the Cayenne.

i was alway led to believe that the fronts are illegal, i smashed my front windscreen on my old car and the guy who came out to replace it did window tinting, and he had the slightest tint on his van and he said it was illegal, the tints must not let 70% through?

you are allowed to tint 25% on fronts, which therefore lets 75% of light through....

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/SCRIPTS/texis.exe/webinator/search/?query=window+tinting&pr=CORP&x=0&y=0

Ok, now tell me the VOSA site is incorrect?

Granted, this subject has never had any real hardcore straight FACTS and a lot of officers will say any tint is illegal.

Try this then:

quote:
For information leaflets on tinted windows for your customers or your noticeboard, call our national number on 0870 60 60 440

It says 2004, but it also says modified 14/1/08.
