Any vauxhall TDI owners tried this? It seems very popular with VAG owners.

As the MAF is very sensetive, the arcing caused by movements of the plug can make the reading vary considerably - couple this with a clattery diesel engine shaking it and youve got a lot of interference! The dielectric grease prevents the arcing of the connections and also repels any water from potentially corroding the contacts.

Ive just bitten the bullet and bought a tube - 56g for £6. I Slightly coated the female connectors, plugged/unplugged a few times, re-applied grease and then finally plugged in. The difference is remarkable! The car starts in a single engine revolution and is much more willing at low revs - absolutely no hesitation as i previously found. I always found my mates Ibiza FR's a lot smoother below 2.5k but now mine is smoother and quieter than that! Ive not really had it above 3k yet due to only a 10mile commute so will report back with more longer term findings!

its not just the cleaning, the grease stops voltage jump

I'm gonna start selling that mod on ebay for £99.99. They'll be gutted when a tube of grease and a print out of the above arrives haha

Do it pow. I have read through treads where people have taken the piss then 4 pages later said "ok i tried it, and it idles better and smokes less "

Surely the same should apply to a petrol car aswell?

Obviously the effects wont be as great as we have proper engines in ours and not tractor engines.

Sorry but

in the probably 300 times i've been out in a vw with the 5052 attached watching the measured value blocks for the air mass meter i have never ever seen voltage drops / spikes / jumps..

What you will probably find is the connection is poor to begin with and the grease is helping a bit to clean it..

same here, its a load of rubbish. you wont get any arcs accross the terminals on a Maf sensor there is literally not enough voltage or current. Not once have I measured a MAF on an oscilloscope and seen any of the above 'voltage arcs' happening.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. I was a total none believer as well but for the sake of £4 I ordered a Tube of Grease and gave it a try. And for reason's I don't understand my Fabia VRS idle's better and rev's smoother.... Haven't noticed any increase in MPG though, and defo no performance gains.

it may help by cleaning the terminals, but grease stopping an arc.... no. the grease will however stop the terminals from corroding and losing connection quality in the future. Use copperslip, does the same job.

any silicone or PVA based grease should work though

Voltage spikes?

Surely this part works by offering resistance. I can see that dirty terminals contributes additional resistance so clean terminals are a good thing - but voltage spikes? I think whoever is hypothesising the problems which this fix rectifies needs a better understanding of what the sensor is actually doing?

Could say the same for any vehicle system - battery terminals should not offer resistance, in fact I would guess that many sensors work in the same way. Fuel level for one.

Clean connectors is just good thing. Not sure why you need to name it after someone!

RE90X Silicone Grease 50g from Maplin is what I ordered.

As Dave said its probably just helping keen the terminals. But I do know it did make a difference. So can't be bad. Especially for £4!
