If you were having your cars ECU remapped and the place that did it offered you the following options, which would you choose and why?
Option 1:
Straightforward ecu remap, no gimmicks just drive in, drive out and it costs £350
Option 2:
Same as option 1 but you get both your old (standard) ECU map file and a further remap file that is tuned purely for economy rather than any power gains and the current 'power' remap file all stored in a touchscreen handheld unit. This will allow you to easily switch between the 3 different maps any time you like! i.e If your car was still under warranty and it needed to go back to the dealers and you want the standard file on just in case of any warranty problems etc... Then when you sell your car you can return the unit to the place you bought it from and they will give you £75 cashback for it. All for £500.
Have managed to make option 2 possible but before it goes into production I am gauging opinions on the idea on a few forums

So the unit gets stored in the car and you can quickly change from one to another.
Definately option 2, if only for the gadget

does option 2 have a limit of the amount of times you can upload the different maps?
dreamscience has 5 iirc, i take it that it's like that?

unit is fully removable, it can be plugged in permanently if required or stored in a safe place.
The unit will only be compatible with the vehicle it is programmed to so you cant lend it to your mates

In the economic climate atm I can see option 2 being very popular tbh...particularly for track cars (i.e. fuel economy on the drive to the track, then full power map on the track)

In terms of the cashback, what about if the handheld plug-in device was damaged. Would there be some sort of reduction in the cashback or no cashback at all? Just trying to cover all areas.

I'd say people will go for number 2 because they do with many current comapanies who do exactly the same thing

its easy enough to rset an ecu yourself, so i cant see people paying extra to do that if its for warrantie purposes etc.

At the moment we can do anything from 2000 onwards with this system, hoping to get the VXR's and focus ST models soon.
other than that the only cars we cant do with this unit are some of the older jap stuff, corsa diesels, some saabs and volvos and the BMW 2007 170 2.0 diesel

the handset must be returned in undamaged working condition, its very robust so cant see it being an issue.

I was gonna say this. Also handy if you can add a security code so the car will only start once the device is plugged in.

Or custom code or many of the other companies who do it.
