I allways thought that with a decompression plate the order went
head
gasket
plate
gasket
block
and you use that high temp non setting sealant but...
I recently had an email from a company saying that the order should be
head
plate (put on head side as this will be the flattest part after being skimmed
gasket
block
which one is correct?

Deano-I dont see the plate sealing without a gasket between it and the head.
Maybe if both had been skimmed....
Id use a gasket tbh

they said to use that non setiing sealant stuff on the plate and the head so it seals. I see that these plates are not very popular might just get the propper pistons, will they be ok with standard rods?

I would catagorically say, regardless of what anyone else tells you, NEVER use a decompression plate under any circumstances as they're utterly, utterly shite.
Unless the block is faced to a perfect level and the head is skimmed, then the plate is perfectly flat on both sides and you get lucky with the 2 gaskets sealing properly, it WILL fail.

My engine runs a plate sandwiched between two gaskets. Been done like that since converted by courtney and never failed.

Should be ok but for the price you can buy steel rod and forged piston combos these days I wouldn't bother risking it.

had a price of 800 for low comp pistons and steel rods with rings ect... just need to find a block now. cheers lads

There's always another way, might mean using a totally random piston but there'll be something out there
