One of my mates was stopped on saturday, and had a £60 fine for having a single wiper coversion on his Nova, is it ilegal?

As far as I know only if it's touching a sunstrip at the top of the window.

Has he got one?

he hasnt got a sunstip, but the wiper is yellow and at the middle of the windscreen.

they arent meant to stop in the middle of the windscreen thats prob why he got the fine. meant to impair visibility there or some bollocks
