Get a data sheet for the paint you are using. Different brands may require different ammounts of thinner.

What colour are you using? 2k or basecoat?
If 2K - 2(parts colour) :1(hardner) :10%(thinners)
If Basecoat - 2(parts colour) : 1(part basecoat thinners) -NO HARDNER
What kind of primer are you using?

primer: it depends if it hi build? can be 2 parts primer to 1 parts hardner 10% thinner, hence why it called 2-1 or you can get 3-1?
2k paint: 2 parts colour to 1 part hardner an 10% thinners(if its cold dont add thinners) 2k already has laquar in it hence the hardener! must be put on in wet coats
base coat: 50/50 50% paint an 50% thinners, dont put it on wet just dust coats, tacky rag after every coat, when dry mix laquar same as primer depending if its 2-1 or 3-1

different paints and different primers have different ratios, dont try and guess because if u get it wrong u will spend ages trying to correct it, if u know the paint make maybe look on the website
some paints require thinners, some require nothing, some require hardeners and thinners, so may require activators

I used to spray celli, mixed up to 70/30 thinners/paint sometimes, so it's extremely runny. Can layer it up nicely then.
But as ed said, it depends on the paint.
