Right some of you may remember my problems I was having with my wireless connection running stupidly slow at like 5 mbps if i was lucky blah blah
Well I decieded to go wired and it cured the problem straight away as in im now running at 100 mbps
Any ideas what the problem might be??

Wired is 100mbps and wireless varies depending on distance and signal strength etc.
5mbps should be fine for web browsing though.

Wireless annoys the hell out of me, so inconsistent.
Always seems to disconnect and reconnect when i'm downloading a lot at once.
BUT the missus doesn't want an ugly grey cable running up stairs

My desktops are wired but the laptops aren't and they work fine unless I want to copy tens of gigs across to one of them.

Drivers, interference, incompatible hardware, many reasons. If you can run a wire, do it.

You've answered your own question Kerry. BT Home hub . So many people have issues with these whether it's connection/signals or just getting them work without locking up. The 3 tech guys in our place got them paid for by work for home internet access and they have no less than 4 replacements each within 12 months. 1 guy is on his 6th replacement router.

I swapped our Home Hub for my Sky Netgear, and it's much better. The Home Hub is a pile of shite.

We use power line adapters to run the distance to the desktops at the other side of the house. No ugly wires, but no wireless.
