Whats the deal with these? I notice you can pick one up for 3K upwards now.

Whats the better of the 2, 1.3 cdti or 1.7 cdti? Whats the mpg on both?

Am I right in thinking the 1.3 cdti will only be £35 a year tax.

My mate has a 1.2 sxi and it returns a similar mpg to my VAG 1.9 tdi. I've notice you can pick these up for £1800 upwards now!

£110/£120 ish, pretty average. Same on a 120d mind

NOT ALL 1.3 CDTi's are £35/year. It's only from 20th January 2005 onwards, therefore a late 55-plate or any 06-plate will be fine. Some Corsa D's aren't even £35 tax per year. The ones that aren't £35 are about £110/£120 again, therefore you're kind of better off with the 1.7CDTi.

Bare in mind insurance and fuel economy though, not that there will be a huge amount of difference.

1.7CDTi's only came in SRi's or Combo's.

1.7DTi's are pretty cheap, same speed as 1.3's iirc, and you can get SXi specs.

Personally, depending on my budget at the time, I'll be looking at Fiesta Zetec S TDCi's. BHP and torque in between 1.3 and 1.7 Corsa's, sporty looks, nice driving position and ALL benefit from £35 tax per year

Can you tell I've looked into this a lot?!

Thats pretty shite about not all 1.3cdtis being £35 a year.

deano Clio 1.5 Dci 80s are a cracking car. I had a 52 reg and couldn't fault it.

I read a lot of reviews back in the day before I was driving about a horrible driving position. Would much rather a Fiesta over that.

I think the tax on a 1.3CDTi is to do with the exhaust and stuff within the engine. But yes it's shit, because the ones within a lot of peoples price ranges, aren't actually that much cheaper on tax than bigger engined cars. The only saving grace is lower insurance and better fuel economy.

The ones in Corsa C's are about 75bhp/ps, in D's they are 90ps and can be remapped to 120ps with ease

Thought so. Isn't the driving position and bit random and slightly offset from the steering wheel?

MK6 Fiesta's have a great driving position imho, quite high for a small car, but high in a good way.

Yes, the pedals and the seat are both offset in different ways from the wheel.

Also, might be getting amazing MPG at 80, but your crusing at nearly 3k rmp, halfways through the rev range on a diesel and its really loud, you can always hear the engine over what you are doing.

Ibiza cruises at 2krmp at 80 in 6thm you can't hear the engine.

That is possibly what the 1.3CDTi is like, as it's 5 speed.

Need to test drive one. There is one at a local garage near Lily, might billy bullshit the salesman.

Interesting.

I want yours. It's the exact spec, colour and mileage I'm after, plus falls into the £35 tax bracket I'm looking to buy October 2009

Funny thing is, I am. I'm one for planning for the future. A decent spec & condition 1.3 is ideal for saving for the future - cheap motoring.
