Ive had my black 2003 ford fiesta lx for around a month now and have recently noticed that there are alot of red paint traces around my dashboard and interior. it is all over the steering shrowd, top of the door cards and in the speaker grills. its resembles a fine dust almost like an overspray???
On closer inspection many of the lower panels, such as glove box and steering coloumn cover have been replaced to black items when they should actually be grey, as my car has the grey coloured interior. When these items were replaced the screws were not put back in and as a result are missing causing a rattle and sqeak which can be quite annoying.
My theory is that the dashboard has been sprayed by the previous owner and that it was put back to standard before i bought it.
What can i use to remove the paint from my trim items? I have tried white spirit but it has just discoloured the black slightly. So what else can i use?
I know this is a corsa forum but i am a regular visitor and hope that somebody on here may be able to help
I appreciate the replies
Cheers,
Carl

If you want something really harsh that can strip paint right back i'd say something like cellulose thinners. That'd probably pull all paint off, including overspray, re-spray and original paint.
Failing that it's an opportunity to spray some interior items

Well i tried some white spirite but it just discoloured the cleaned items white - but it was working resonably well.
Would using these cellouse thinners on plastics do them any damage??

white spirit isnt a paint stripper, but is a thinner
You arent going to get it off cleanly... best bet would be to repray it the colour you want.
Paint stripper could be fun - to see the outcome

Well I'd say meths (purple stuff from Halfords). We use it on plastic lenses at work. Acetone will work but more than likely melt the dash with it.

Standard thinners (cellulose thinners) will take off rattle can paint with a fair bit of work. I sprayed it using a spray gun and washed off all the Hammerite in my engine bay before I re-sprayed it properly. It may not be too safe on certain plastics though.
Nitromors will strip off any other kind of paint or varnish and is safe to use on anything like plastic, wood or metal as it is water based, not solvent.

White spirit, acetone or meths won't do the job if you are trying to take off dry paint...

or as few people have said, you may just have to have it painted.

Cheers for the advice.
Il try some nitromors as this sounds like it will do the job better than most.
thanks again

Nitromorse will probably melt through the plastic if left on long enough!
