quicker than a valver corsa, alot quicker round the corners.

172 cup has no abs, no traction control etc.

172 FF ( Full Fat) Has abs , tcs , leather seats etc

I've got a clio 182, I have heard of people on cliosport.net losing to XE'd corsas/novas.
But I think it depends on which clio sport and the driver. Also the corsas/novas that win tend to be stripped out and only beat the clios in straight line.
I'm more than glad I changed from my corsa to the 182!

its designed to have a 2.0 - 170bhp etc....so it is much better than 95% of Corsa conversion

oh and pretty much as rob said,

172 cup has thinner glass, lighter wheels, different suspension (which cant be transferred onto a non cup model), no leather/suede, no aircon/climate control, less sound deadening, no xenons, no electronic stability program and it has different spoilers.

However on the 182 they introduced the 'cup' packs where as an optional extras you could have the lightweight wheels, suspension and spoilers.
Mine has the cup packs and I can honestly say its definitely worth finding a car with them fitted already as it would cost so much more to fit them aftermarket.

I put trophy wheels on mine, which are 172 cup speedlines in anthracite instead of silver.
I would get a 172FF if you are on a budget, good all round car, and hardly any slower than the cup.
This one is cheap, low mileage, good condition and has the cup wheels!

Trophy wheels are hard to come by, and second hand sets people usually ask for around £400 without tyres. I bought mine directly from renault, if u can, sweet talk the parts guy and tell him you bought the car from their dealership and ask if you can have them at trade price. Worked for me, but I did actually buy the car from their dealership.
You can usually pick up 172 cup wheels on ebay for about £250-300, although they will usually need a refurb.

Nice! wish mine were that cheap! what colour is your 182?

I love the way everyone under rates them, I annihilated a E36 328 last week and E46 330 tonight!

Don't like them, worst car i've owned.

Doesn't feel like its going as fast as it is, had much more fun in my fabia.

Need to rev the nuts of it to get it to go anywhere, totally gutless under 4k.

A good running XE nova will tear up a 182 so dont know how an XE corsa will fare up against a 172.TBH i dont think theyr would be much in it.

Ive played with a 182 in my old Astra GSI XE and lost big time. Then when i dropped the V6 in,the tables were turned.
The V6 used to keep with XE novas up the higher end of the gears, but low-down it had no chance.

I think the problem is that in modern times redtops can vary so much in power output. A freshly built XE will obviously give a clio sport a run for its money, however most have done well over 100k by now and burn a lot of oil.
My mates nova XE would only just beat a saxo vts.
Most of the XE's that would stand a chance against a clio sport are stripped out, and the clios they have raced have been overloaded with goodies such as 4 airbags!
Put it this way, a redtop when it rolled off the production line made 150 (ish) bhp, that was a good few years ago. Clio sports are still relatively new (compared with XE engines), and made atleast 170bhp when they left the factory.
