getting a camera soon and just trying to understand the jargon, whats live view?

Live View means you can use you DSLR just like a compact. i.e use the screen instead of the viewfinder.

the liveview is generally pretty gash
Until you have it on a computer screen with remote shooting, that way you can individually fine tune the focus in areas not usually seen!

You've gotta be careful with liveview as the are a few different systems. For example the canon one has 2 different autofocuses, a contrast based one that works in live view and another which uses the mirror (and deactivates liveview temporarily so you don't see what it focuses on).
I think at the moment Sony probably have the best liveview system on the Alpha series cameras. As it runs well and there is very little difference in the autofocus speed.
