So yeah, first virus or trojan I've picked up in years. I have McAfee Security Centre running and it has never let me down. . .till now.

It detected various trojans and removed them, lovely jubbly.

However, I still have something here that shouldn't be. Sometimes avatars on here are changed to advertising GIFs, and occasionally websites will open in different tabs.

Is there any free & safe anti-virus/software removal programme I can download that will get rid. I have run a full system scan using McAfee, but it doesn't see anything wrong.

It's limiting my searches on Google too. Can't search for anything. Corsasport is fine. Really annoying.

No option. Using Firefox as well. It's limiting IE though.

Hmmm got in to Help Mode, and internet/Firefox/IE works fine. McAfee scan in Help Mode returned nothing. I've uninstalled it and installed AVG Free to see what that comes back with.

Why don't you go to Norton and find out what the name of the virus is, then search on Google for a solution to remove it? Norton ought to have a section on their website telling you how to get rid of them. I know that when I used to run a virus scanner it could tell me stuff like that.

why Norton?

I had McAfee which removed some Trojan's automatically, but hasn't removed them all.

I then did a full system scan using McAfee, which said the HDD was clean.

Since done the same with AVG and the system is still, supposedly clean, even though I know it isn't.

Norton, McAfee, F-Secure, AVG or whatever you're using. They all do a similar job.
