Depends which model SRi you get. Engine codes differ from face lift & pre facelift.
I've heard numerous people say that the 1.4 16v isn't a great deal better than the 1.2 16v, yet the fuel economy etc is worse. The 1.8 is the one to go for really.

Its going to be the face lift model around 04 to 05 plate, was looking at the 1.8 but the amount you spend on tax fuel and the extra on insurence decided would rather have the 1.4

Then you could say the amount you spend extra on tax and fuel for the 1.4, you could have the 1.2 and go on forever
Saying that, I would look at 1.4's.
May be look out for the 'Exclusiv' models. They are 1.4 16v, come with full leather, climate and 4CD changer I think. Much nicer to live with imho. Whittie on here has one. Quite rare though.

Why does that make it easier to live with? Just perks really.

Well, I'm talking personally. The next car I get will be long term, so better to live with i.e. the perks

If you go for an Exclusiv it'll be more expensive to have the timing done as it's chain driven instead of belt. Make sure that it had the chain alteration done in the recall, if not...Ouch.

I did have a feeling the 'Twinport' models were chain driven. If so, it'll be 100k for the chain. . .I think.

There was a recall was this on the exclusiv? What engines are in them thought they were the same as the sri's?

Yeah there were a couple of recalls iirc. One for the chain, another for the ABS unit. Rob E on here will be able to give you better info as he works for Vaux!
