want one of those wall hinge things that holds tv's to the wall.
needs to accomodate a 42'' samsung plasma (don't know if that makes any difference).
anyone have any suggestions? had one before downstairs and it was so weak the tv pulled it off the wall.

It's more about fixing to the wall than the mount itself, unless you meant that the metal of the bracket deformed.
Best one's in my house are from ebay.
Most expensive is a vogels one from costco and it was a total waste of money.
In the middle is a makro one that was 40 quid and is quite good.
You'll need a stud though if you're mounting to gyproc.

Are you mounting on a solid brick/block wall or stud wall?
If its a stud wall John means you will need to be fixing into one of the vertical timber studs.

I have one I've just taken off my wall as I put mine on a TV stand.
Held my 42" up fine for a year no problemo

You'd have to install it really badly for it to fall off a brick wall.

Has it got to be a cantilever bracket (one that you can pull out and swivel) or just a flat bracket?
Make sure you use some good bolts, dont drill the holes too loosely, if your using wall plugs make sure theyre a tight fit before the bolt goes in.
I installed one for a mate, hes got a 40" on a cantilever, used a cheap ebay bracket and you could tell it was cheap, you get what you pay for with brackets, use a cheap one and it will be a ball-ache to put together and could buckle/bend over time, use a tried and tested well-known brand and you'll be fine.

I disagree, the 100 quid vogels I have on one tv is no better than the 30 quid ebay one on another, I like the way the ebay one goes together also.
The steel used is just as thick as the vogels one, I won't be buying vogels again.

it'll be a flat bracket. just like grahams.
just checked ebay and saw this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLASMA-LCD-TV-WALL-MOUNT-BRACKET-30-32-37-40-42-46-50_W0QQitemZ270282163533QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270282163533&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
price is cheap, which is why i'm a bit sceptical.

See it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with that, but I don't know if I'd trust my £800 TV with it

Thats almost exactly the one i've got, mine isn't black and I don't think it's quite as big either, also cost me more
If it's constructed the same as mine (which it looks to be) it's just as good as anything more expensive.
The guy has 100% feedback too so everybody else must be happy.

It's folded sheet steel, there's not much that can go wrong.
