am i correct in saying that the larger the "f" number the smaller the aperture??

Eg: F29 would be a very small lens aperture
F2.8 would be a larger aperture

If i wanted very close objects to be in focus and th background to be out of focus , i would use a smaller aperture setting, therefore Smaller depth of field?

So f2.8 for a huge Depth of feild and F29 for no depth of feild

Or in other words
F2.8 for a blurry background behind a focused portrait and F29 for a landscape (all of the shot in focus)
