So yeah, I got the 405D for my 21st and have started taking photos, but I need somewhere suitable to host them. I will be taking a lot of biking/action photo's, so preferably somewhere where I can give people the URL easily etc.
Is TinyPic ok, does that compress images? What about Flickr? I'm not too worried about having to pay for hosting/membership, or is that a big no no in terms of sites available on the net?

Does it make images smaller like Photobucket, Corsasport etc does?
Also, what's the deal with Flickr needing a Yahoo account?

I use tinypic for all my hosting, quick and easy and I've never noticed a difference in the quality. Download a program called 'microsoft image resizer' if you have xp, resize them all yourself before hosting them.

I'm pretty sure both Flickr and Fotki don't resize your images unless you choose too.
I've use Fotki, I've just got the free one for now but if you pay you get unlimited space so you can have all your images on there. You also have the choice of private albums iirc where they don't show up to other people and you can put passwords on albums that aren't set as private too.
I'm yet to get a Flickr account although I quite like having a browse round on there every so often

I use Fotki as well. It does re-size them for your main gallerys and folders but cant say i notice a massive reduction in quality. It stores the original uploaded photo as well so you can link to it if you wish.
You used to be able to sign up for free for a month to try it out

Well worded
One thing I've noticed with Fotki, it may be that I'm doing it wrong and I'm hoping you may be able to help Adam but when I want to post a picture it only seems to have the options for a 120x90 thumbnail or the full size pic. So to post the album size pic and still have it linked, I've got to copy the BB code for the full size pic, then change the [img] code with the location of the album sized pic, ie. go back to the album pic, right click, properties then copy the location and paste over the original [img] code
Any ideas?

I always use Flickr. All my images get reduced down to 1200 pixels on the longest side and 85% quality. You don't REALLY need to post them up at full size.

Uploading to Fotki as we speak, see how I get on.

mmm, I'll have to have a gander later, don't be surprised if random threads keep appearing and disappearing
Edit: Just had a look at yours and the 'more share options' are different to mine, might be cos I'm a pikey that hasn't paid tho
Edit again: Matt L, you are also a pikey iirc If you click on Adam's picture then go to the share options is it different to yours?

I'm using free.
'Share photo' button gives you:
Link to send via email/instant messenger:
http://public.fotki.com/deano87/practiceshots/practice002.html
Code for a Fotki Journal:
[photo id=wgwswbrsktbftwdxgfsbwbrsfbsr type=vi style=1 align=no link=photo]
Then 'HotLink This Image' below them gives you everything else, but it's either massive, or small

Yep, same as mine, if you click on the pic Adam has posted further up then share photo, it's different, it has 'more share options' then it gives you the code for the album size pics or thumbnails, obviously a lot more simple.
So I'm guessing it's another perk of a premium account which is $30 a year or if you get 2 or 3 years straight off it's a bit cheaper. Not sure what that works out as in proper money tho

Roughly £15. Said it was $2.50 a week iirc. £1.25! I'm trying Flickr out.
