well basically last year my dad was having troubles with his focus rs.
It kept stalling when he was pulling up to a junction ect. At night time when it wanted to cut out the lights would flicker.
Anyways he took the car to hartwell ford where we live & they suggested he had the new parts replaced to sort the car out. The list:
New battery harness.
Temp sender.
Idle controll valve.
M.a.p sensor.
M.a.f sensor?
Air Flow Metre.
Battery.
Alternator.
All that plus labour was nearly £1300!!!! They had the car for weeks & had to get ford techinacla involved & the problem was sorted for about a week.
People on the rs owners website suggested he should do an e.c.u reset which my dad has done, It sorts the problem out for about a week & then the problem keeps happening again.
My cousin suggested that he changes the plugs & leads ( this was nearly summer 08 ). So my dad bought some magncore 8.5 leads & he bought n.g.k platinum plugs. After i had fitted these parts the problem was solved.
Now its winter again the problem is back, He's just rung me up to tell me that the car has stolled 5 times on the way to his work.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Any help would be much apreaciated.

good chance that one of those fitted parts is faulty
what does the diagnostic say ?
have you considered taking it to someone like motorsport developments, or TOTD, as maybe they have seen a similar thing, and will have deffinatly seen more RS's than your local ford dealer

He was advised to take the car to owen developments but they said they wont touch the car. He has a scan gauge fitted in the car & no faults come on when doing a test.

Also ford done a diagnostic test & couldnt find any problems.

yeah owen are local to you as well arent they 
i would try TOTD, or MSD etc, as wouldnt suprise me if its a known problem, just ford dont know it, as they dont see many
have they got a knock sensor ?

Yes owen's are only 5 minutes down the road.
I don't know much about fords so i don't know if they have a knock sensor?
When the car wants to cut out it makes a wastegate noise, like a pidgeon.

Try spraying all the contacts on the ignition (coil etc) with wd40 as it could just be condensation now the cold damp weathers here

i'd say take it to a specialist as they will most probably look at it and solve it in a few minuits... The only thing i can think of is the coil pack as they are prone on all the focus engines.. I did have a problem with one once that was a cutting out when slowing down when cold.. Found it to be the clutch diaphram plate had slightly warped and was causing the clutch to stay partialy engaged when pushing the clutch.. Oh and i know of one which was having problems with a sticky turbo actuator causing it to cut out aswell.. Hope that helps

personly id to ford, as there more likely to know what the problem is
try another dealer?
do the lights go out on the dash, or anything strange
does it literaly just stall, or slowly die?
when hot, cold?
have they updated the software on the ECU
could be 101 things tbh
people think the 'computer' tells you whats wrong, where as it points you in the right direction, or could send you off it the wrong direction

ive heard this before from ford, they told me there was no problem but my speedo didnt work when the ecu light was on. does it happen when the clutch is pushed in?

Sounds the same as my dad had on his Vauxhall when they put the AFM on backwards.

yeah but its not a good one hes bought thats what i mean! why doesn't he just trade it in, most ppl i know would not stand for all the faults and demand another one from the dealership

Doesnt all cars get problems? Why would he trade it in when somethings not right with the car? Also every since ford announced that the focus rs was comming out he's always wanted one, so trading it in wont be an option. At the end of the day i'm looking for help to see what the problems could be. I don't think many ford dealerships have focus rs's, not around here anyway.

I'd be going back the dealers who carried out the repair. £1300 and the issue is not resolved is not good enough. I'd want a refund as they've obviously fitted a load of parts that didn't need replacing.

He's tried, ford don't want anything to do with the car because they can't fix the damn thing. Like i said earlier in the thread, Ford technical had to get involved & they couldnt find the fault either. Will do what corsAsh has suggested or take it to TOTD or MSD

If they don't want anything to do with it then fair enough but I'd still be demanding a refund for the parts fitted that made f**k all difference. That £1300 could go to a specialist who might know what they're doing  .
