Looking to buy a new pc 
Just coming up with some spec on the dell website, and so far it looks like this:
Base:
Intel® Core™ 2 Quad-Core Q9450 Processor (2.66GHz, 12MB cache, 1333MHz FSB)
Memory:
4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x1024]
Hard Drive:
1.0TB (7200RPM) SATA Dual Hard Drives (2X500GB)
Video Card:
512MB nVidia GeForce 9800GT graphics card
Its been a good while since i've had my geek hat on and looked at computers, so was hoping some resident cs geeks would be able to advise me on a couple of things.
Does this sound like a decent set up? Is there anything you would advise adding/changing?
Also the pc doesn't come with a modem, but since i have a BT Voyager 220V external one for broadband, that isn't a problem is it?

build it yourself mate if you wanna save a few pounds, or get more bang for your buck, few of us can tell you every bit you need for your budget

you wont need a modem, broadband uses either ethernet or wifi and ethernet at least will be on evry mobo now. 1x1tb is better than 2x500gb. and why quad core? if its for games, C2D is a better waste of money  (i have quad core, but not enough programs make good use of it)

Far too much hassle for my liking. Its also gonna be a computer my dad uses for work from time to time, so he'd prefer it to be an 'off the shelf' one.

in that case, dell or scan.co.uk do very good deals on pre-built pc's. but i'd go for a faster c2d than c2q

Quad core is the only option for the pc package i selected. The only difference is a 6mb or 12mb cache. I chose 12 cos its a bigger number

Just to add, i never play games on the pc. It's purely for graphics work and surfing the web.

A budget of about £900ish. Not needing a monitor though as we already have one.

No you're not.
Possibly look at the precision workstations, they're for cad work and stuff like that so although still powerful they're tailored more towards what you're looking for than entertainment.

£900 will get you a hell of a system if you dont need a monitor
