Ive heard this is now illegal but cant find any concrete evidence on the net. I gotta take my car to the garage tomorrow for a clutch change, the one in there is so close to being completely gone that i needed a run up the hill to get home last time, so i didnt wanna risk driving it the 3/4 mile to the garage in case it goes on the big roundabout or something If it is illegal, whats the penalty? Its such a short distance I think I may just do it anyway, but not if theres silly penalties

TBH i think its a "grey" area.Itl all just depend on the copper if u do get pulled but id think ud be ok if its only a short distance to and from the MOT station.

my dad was towing my mums car with a metal towing bar and as he braked for a junction the bar just bent and crumpled and my mum just went straight into the back of him! must have been a cheap one or something. the brakes didnt work in my mums car because the engine wasnt on and she didnt think quick enough to use the handbreak.lol.

the breakls do still work theyre just hard as hell, but for that reason thats why they dont allow rope, also your not meant to rely 100% on the tow bar to do all the work

the bars are not infallable, and hard brakeing will kill just about any bar

even a Aframe can buckle under hard brakeing. bit like slamming on with a caravan on the back, its gonna uncouple and buttfuck you

I broke down on a roundabout today and got my mum to tow me, she didn't realise that you cant just pull of without taking up the slack, it survived the first time then the second time she snapped it. She heard the noise it made, she slammed on the brakes and I nearly went ito the back of her.

Moral of the story, if you are using a tow rope make sure that both drivers know what they are doing

Use a tow bar IMO. £25 from Halfords, towed my Fiesta 15 miles.

It does say don't go over 15mph though which is stupid. We did 50 and it was fine.

I think its to do with the braking mate. I dont think it wil hit a certain speed and then snap

Hmm true, I was pressing my brakes but tbh with the servo it was so hard I don't think it was actually doing anything!

Mate brought a Mk2 golf back a few miles (~30 IIRC) and his mate in his 1.8 Corsa C knocked 100mph chasing someone who overtook him God knows how long it took him to reach 100 I just got a text saying 'omg he's doing a ton'

I once towed a mini with a tow rope.

I think that did my Corsa clutch for good.

Also, watching him come up fast in my rear bumper wasn't good.

Lost count of the amount of times I was towed 30 miles down the M56 and M53 in my Corsa when it broke down coming to and from work, most of the time used a rope. Went past plenty of police, just had a clear on-tow sign (kept it in the car )

Couldn't see anything other than the brake lights on the back of my dads van there's certainly an art to it.

My road is on a bit of a hill up to the main road, maybe 30m, im hoping my mate's 1.6 megane is strong enough to tow my skyline to the top of there, the rest is dowhill or flat and less than a mile, so it shouldnt be an issue. I found the towing eye but its behind the bumper
