Me and a mate were discussing this not long ago. When Deco chose to play for Portugal because he was declared a Portugese Citizen it caused a bit of a storm. And now Hamish mcNovo wants to play for Scotland (or infact anyone who'll give the boy a cap). What's everyones views on this? I disagree whole heartedly with playing for another Nation! But I guess it depends on circumstances... However, in Novo's case, does anyone think he should get to play for Scotland? If so, why? or why not?

Disagree with any player playing for another country unless they are either born there or there's a genuine blood link.
International football should be the best players from one country playing against the best from another, not a worldwide select of whoever has a granny from Brazil and Argentina.

I will add that the player himself is not to blame if he's given the choice and exercises it.

If they developed themselves in the said country from a very young age, yes

Thing is, some players aren't good enough to play for the country they were born in so exploit the fact they have a foreign parent/grand parent and play for that country (Usually some crappy team anyway!) instead.
Freddy Eastwood and Tom Williams spring to mind.

The whole Brazilian thign is a joke alos ie Deco, Senna, Eduardo etc. (esp Eduardo, leats the other 2 are for Latin ocuntries )

It's certaintly something that needs addressing, although I can't agree that if your born there you must play for them, unless you grew up there, a friend of mine's parents went on a trip to Munich (they are from Sheffield) for 5days, my friend was born there, then came home with his parents, he never has been to Germany since his birth, is he German or is he English? We gave him some grief over it though.
I could represent Brazil by birth and upbringing plus my Mum and the rest of my family apart from my Dad is Brazilian, Scotland because my Dad is from Glasgow, England, N. Ireland or Wales because I have lived here in the UK on and off for 9 years, so what am I? I don't know.

Well yeah but pro footballers are humans too with families and ancestors, they were born somewhere, they don't just beam down to Earth and choose a nation.
