Hi all
Has anyone converted a 1.2 8v to a 1.6 16v?
What needs changing and what do you advise to change?

You could fit a 1.6 sport engine for less than £200, so selling a 1.2 and buying a sport wont be cheaper.

well seen as the 1.6 16v engine normally sell for £250-£300 and if the lad isn't capable of fitting it himself there is £200 labour on top of that, plus he is gonna need bigger brakes, fuel pump shafts think thats in the excess of £600 and i bought my 1.6 sport for £550 so imo either buy a 1.6 corsa sport as its a better spec car than the merit or ls that you have now, or if you want to drop an engine in your corsa put one in that has power as the standard 1.6's arn't fast

why change the shafts?
the 1.2 one's will be more than up to the job

the lad who i sold my engine to had a 1.2 8v and asked for the hubs and shafts too so i just assumed the 1.2's where not capable of the extra "power" for the 1.6

there's no real difference in the, both have same outter cv's and hub's
only diff is the gsi's that had the 22 spline's which only effect's the inner cv

Me and a mate picked up a 1.6 sport engine for £165 from a breakers
Im sure someone would fit it cheaper than that.

£200 is a reasonable price for an engine swap, there is users on here who charge more than that would you believe!!.
£165 is very cheap if you ask me i sold a 1.4 for more than that. back on topic, if it was my car i'd either sell it and buy a 1.6 sport as its a better car or if you want your corsa to be quick save up for a redtop conversion

as above, i'd personally buy a sport rather than sticking engine in one..
insurance would be cheaper too, as it's not been converted

i have the engine droped in and all the shafts are the same the new loom is in and pluged in also the mpi fuel pump is in brought from adam d. also got some 2ltr brakes on there.
i am having a problem getting it runnin. Not sure if i need a key transponder to match the ecu it wont turn over. The engine is the ecotech 1.6 As barter said i brought the engine from him dirt cheap.
