Past few days ive been having a problem with my car. If i leave it for a day without driving it, then start it up and goto drive when i accelerate and put my foot down its just coughing and spluttering and juddering and there's no power atall...i thought it was missfiring, but after like 10-15mins of poodling along and turning car off & on again it will eventually smooth out and dissapear. I thought missfire's were constant, right?

Its only when i seem to leave my car for a day or so without running it.

x14xe engine, any help would be appreciated

there is no choke, full stop...

choke is a mechanical method of adjusting fuel delivery on carb'd engines. fuel injected engines adjust fuelling via a cold start map dependent on inputs from various sensors (coolant temp, lambda, etc). if any of these sensors is fubared, this fucks up.

Try changing the coolant temp sensor (blue-plug, bolted in the side of the thermostat front of engin) but it does sound like signs of issues with head. I had similiar issues with an old X16 lump, would be like crap when cold starting, no power, run on 3 cyls... as soon as it got upto temp it would be fine.

Check the levels & colour of your coolant & oil...

PaulW: replaced coolant temp sensor last month, so that should be fine. Oil is fine, no signs of water in it. Coolant level is fine. Plugs were replaced last service (9k ago) so they should be ok.

Its also now really struggling to start, so im thinking coil pack maybe?

If it was coilpack surely it would do it all the time due to it being electrical and not mechanical?

No, coilpacks can be intermittent... Was the case on both my Omega's, they suffered more during cold damp spells.

instead of guessing and asking people on the internet who havnt seen and cannot diagnose the problem - i would take it to vauxhall for a tek check

the amount of times iv seen people 'guess' a problem, by the replacement part and have the problem still persist i would say it wasnt worth it
